Plasma Vs LCD TV's and Displays

The question of whether to install Plasma or LCD displays has raged for as long as both formats have been in existence. As home cinema and multi-room audio video designers and installers we are often asked the question which is better. Unfortunately the answer is not black and white, nor can it be resolved by looking at resolution, contrast or black levels.

When choosing your display the primary consideration must be source media - high definition and therefore high contrast sources such as games consoles and blue ray players may be better suited to LCD than Plasma. Standard definition sources such as terrestrial television, standard definition Sky or plain old DVD may be better suited to Plasma. Unless you have a dedicated cinema room then in most cases a compromise must be reached. A good Plasma display will make a standard definition source look good - with natural skin tones, deep blacks and smooth movement. An LCD fed with the same source may look blocky, two dimensional and jerky. With a high definition source such as blue ray player or Sky HD a Plasma display may look good, possibly excellent with high contrast levels, deep blacks and sharp movement. An LCD with the same source can be breathtaking - a film such as Finding Nemo in HD can be superb on an LCD with deep colours and high contrast.

In summary we believe in the vast majority of cases most people would pick a Plasma display over an LCD if compared side by side with the same sources.

The bulb's digitally regulated beam maintains a constant brightness during your activity, so you won't have to deal with a dimming beam while you hike. The flashlight is also well built, with a durable aircraft-grade aluminum body coated with a premium Type III hard-anodized, anti-abrasive finish. The construction--which includes a toughened ultra-clear double glass lens with an anti-reflective coating--helps the light hold up to all kinds of abuse. Other features include a tactical pushbutton tail-cap switch; rhombic knurling to improve the grip; and such accessories as a lanyard, a spare rubber switch boot, and two spare O-rings.
